The Autism Alert Card, supported by the British Transport Police, is a valuable but little-known resource designed to assist neurodivergent individuals in stressful situations 1. This card helps communicate an individual's needs to police officers and other officials, potentially preventing misunderstandings and behavioural escalations 1. Despite its importance, awareness of the card remains low-even among the police force that helped establish it

The significance of this issue is highlighted in Distraction Pack, a docudrama created by a neurodivergent crew and supported by neurodivergent police officers. The film illustrates the challenges faced by autistic individuals and the potential impact of the Autism Alert Card in reducing distress

The film also examines new laws implemented to protect neurodiverse individuals,

many of whom may be unaware of these protections. This docudrama is not only

informative but also incredibly well crafted, made by and for neurodiverse individuals.

The project has garnered significant attention and praise, with quotes from film

workshop participants, Met Police, change grow live, and aided by the NPAA national

Police Autism Association and ADHD Alliance and Anne Clarke AM., London

Assembly states,

“I am pleased to hear about the excellent work you are doing with the

neurodivergent community, especially by supporting Change Grow Live in producing

their short film "Distraction Pack", which draws attention to the challenges faced by

neurodivergent people coming into contact with the criminal justice system.

The film makes very clear that there is still a great deal more to be done to reduce

disadvantages for neurodivergent people, but raising awareness of the issue is an

important first step. I congratulate all those involved in this project, and look forward

to the progress you all make.”
